Dell ProSupport Vs ProSupport Plus: What Each Plan Covers And How to Track it

Dell ProSupport vs ProSupport Plus comes down to what happens after a device breaks. ProSupport gives business PCs 24x7 access to Dell's in-region experts, onsite repair after remote diagnosis and proactive hardware alerts. ProSupport Plus keeps all of that and adds accidental damage coverage, Keep Your Hard Drive, priority access, self-healing automations and, for larger fleets, a Technical Customer Success Manager.

This comparison is written for IT teams that buy support for a fleet of company PCs, so Dell's consumer plans and its server support are out of scope. It covers each plan line by line, what ProSupport Plus adds and under which conditions, where ProSupport Flex fits, which plan suits each kind of device, and how to keep track of the coverage each machine actually has.

Dell ProSupport vs ProSupport Plus at a glance

Dell compares its business PC plans in the Support for Business PCs page, which also lists its Basic hardware warranty as a baseline. The table below follows that comparison, with the details Dell sets out in each plan's service description.

Basic Hardware Service ProSupport ProSupport Plus

These are the terms Dell publishes for the United States as of October 2026. Dell notes that availability and response times vary by country and model, so the contract or quote for each purchase is the final word on what a device carries. The sections below go through what ProSupport covers, what ProSupport Plus adds, where ProSupport Flex fits and which plan suits each kind of device.

What Dell ProSupport covers

ProSupport is the base of Dell's ProSupport Suite for PCs, which Dell describes as dependable support for everyday needs. It moves a fleet from the business-hours help of the Basic warranty to a support line that answers around the clock and covers software as well as hardware.

What's included

The ProSupport service description (version 6.2, October 2025) sets out the services in the plan. These are the ones that shape day-to-day support for a fleet:

  • 24x7 troubleshooting, including holidays, with in-region ProSupport experts.
  • Onsite repair after remote diagnosis. A technician or replacement part is dispatched once Dell finishes troubleshooting remotely, at the response level shown on the invoice. Next business day service runs ten hours a day, five days a week, excluding holidays, and is only available on select models.
  • SupportAssist for Business PCs at no extra charge, which monitors devices proactively, predicts some hardware failures and can open a case and dispatch a part automatically.
  • Software support for select Dell end-user applications and collaborative assistance for eligible third-party products, as long as the customer holds active support agreements with those vendors.

What ProSupport leaves out

ProSupport repairs defects, so damage caused by drops, spills or surges is outside the plan. The service description also excludes cosmetic damage, damage from acts of nature, data backup and recovery, and batteries older than 12 months unless Extended Battery Service or the warranty terms cover them.

Keep Your Hard Drive is outside the plan as well: when Dell replaces a failed drive under ProSupport, the old drive goes back to Dell unless the customer purchased that service for the device. For devices that hold sensitive data, this is often the line that decides the plan.

What ProSupport Plus adds

ProSupport Plus includes everything in ProSupport and adds services for damage, data and account management. Each one comes with conditions set out in the ProSupport Plus service description (version 10, April 2025, for the Americas).

Accidental damage coverage

Accidental damage covers drops, spills and electrical surges on the supported device. It is limited to one qualified incident per device in each 12-month period of the service term, and an unused incident does not carry over to the next period.

The coverage excludes theft, loss, fire, flood and other acts of nature, intentional damage and misuse, cosmetic damage and repairs done by unauthorized parties. Dell also asks for the damaged unit to be returned. Dell's service description notes that some regions have separate accidental damage terms.

Keep Your Hard Drive

Keep Your Hard Drive lets the customer keep a failed drive after Dell replaces it under a qualifying defect. It matters most for organizations that cannot let storage media leave their custody, because a returned drive could still hold recoverable data.

Dell does not offer it on models with a soldered drive, on Chromebooks or on Venue tablets. The service covers keeping the drive only: wiping and disposing of it stays with the customer.

Technical Customer Success Manager

ProSupport Plus customers with 500 or more devices under active ProSupport Plus contracts can get a Technical Customer Success Manager (TCSM), once Dell onboards them. The TCSM works during normal business hours and handles reporting and planning for the account. Dell's business PC comparison calls the same role a Service Account Manager.

Smaller fleets keep every other ProSupport Plus service without the TCSM. For them, the decision rests on accidental damage, Keep Your Hard Drive and the self-healing tools.

Priority access and self-healing automations

ProSupport Plus tickets get priority access to Dell's in-region experts, 24x7. On the device side, SupportAssist adds a library of Dell-authored scripts that fix common issues automatically, automated PC optimizations and custom catalogs to push Basic Input/Output System (BIOS), driver and firmware updates remotely.

These tools need SupportAssist installed and configured on each device. Dell notes that proactive and predictive capabilities depend on the active service plan and on Dell's business rules.

Where ProSupport Flex fits

ProSupport Flex is Dell's modular option for organizations with in-house IT that want to supplement it. It requires a fleet of 1,000 or more devices and includes self-healing automations, a Technical Customer Success Manager and 24x7 access to in-region experts.

In Flex, accidental damage coverage and Keep Your Hard Drive are optional modules that can be added per need. That suits large fleets where only some device groups need them, such as field laptops or devices that handle regulated data.

Which Dell support plan fits your fleet

Most fleets end up with more than one plan, because the risk differs by device. The cases below follow the services that change the decision: accidental damage, drive retention and the level of support access.

Laptops that travel

Laptops that leave the office face the drops, spills and surges that ProSupport excludes. ProSupport Plus covers one of those incidents per device every 12 months, which usually matters more for a mobile workforce than any other line in the table.

Theft and loss stay excluded on every plan, so travelling devices still need their own process for those cases. Device tracking and a clear owner for each laptop help when a claim is out of Dell's scope.

Devices that hold sensitive data

Devices in finance, legal, healthcare or any team that handles regulated data are the strongest case for Keep Your Hard Drive. With ProSupport, a failed drive goes back to Dell; with ProSupport Plus, it stays with the organization for its own disposal process.

Check the model first, since drive retention is unavailable on devices with soldered storage. On those models, data protection depends on encryption and on how the organization handles the whole device at the end of its life.

Office desktops that stay put

Desktops that never leave a desk rarely suffer accidental damage, and their drives are easier to control. For them, ProSupport covers the essentials: 24x7 support, next business day onsite repair after remote diagnosis and proactive alerts.

ProSupport Plus can still pay off for desktops when the organization wants the self-healing scripts or remote update catalogs across the whole fleet. In that case, the return comes from fewer tickets and less hands-on maintenance.

How to track Dell coverage across your fleet with InvGate Asset Management

A fleet that mixes Basic, ProSupport and ProSupport Plus, plus upgrades bought along the way, needs someone to know what each device is covered for before promising a repair. Dell records each purchased service as a separate entitlement with its own dates, and checking a Dell warranty by Service Tag one device at a time does not scale to hundreds of machines.

InvGate Asset Management is IT Asset Management software that offers an enterprise experience without the complexity or the price of one, with an intuitive interface, a no-code approach and fast deployment. Its warranty integration with Dell uses the Service Tags already in the inventory to bring each device's coverage in automatically:

  • Every coverage on the device profile. The Warranties tab lists each coverage Dell reports for the device, with its service level, start and end dates, and status, so the technician sees what the machine is entitled to before opening a case with Dell.

  • Dates under your control. The integration keeps the warranty expiration date up to date, and it can fill the acquisition date only when that field is empty. A date edited by hand stays as entered, which keeps invoice dates from resellers intact, and clearing the field hands it back to the integration.

  • Fleet-wide follow-up on expiration dates. The warranty expiration date feeds the rest of the platform: the native Upcoming warranty expiration automation, Smart Tags that group devices by warranty status, Health rules that flag warranties about to expire and dashboards.

  • Lenovo in the same place. The Warranties tab works the same way for Lenovo devices, so mixed fleets follow both manufacturers from one inventory.

With every device's coverage and expiration date in one place, the next call is whether to extend, replace or self-insure each machine, which is covered in our guide to Warranty Management. InvGate was also included as a Representative Vendor in the Gartner Market Guide for Hardware Asset Management Tools in February 2026.

To sum up

Dell ProSupport vs ProSupport Plus is a decision about risk per device. ProSupport gives every business PC 24x7 support, onsite repair after remote diagnosis and proactive alerts, while ProSupport Plus adds accidental damage coverage, Keep Your Hard Drive, priority access, self-healing automations and a TCSM for fleets of 500 devices or more.

Whichever mix a fleet ends up with, knowing what each device is covered for is what turns the plan into faster repairs. To see every Dell coverage in your own inventory, start a free trial of InvGate Asset Management or talk to Sales.

Dell ProSupport vs ProSupport Plus FAQ

These are the questions IT teams ask most often when choosing between the two plans. Each answer follows Dell's published terms for the United States.

Does Dell ProSupport include accidental damage?

No. In Dell's comparison for business PCs, accidental damage coverage comes with ProSupport Plus, limited to one qualified incident per device every 12 months, and as an optional module in ProSupport Flex.

Is ProSupport Plus worth it for laptops?

It usually is for laptops that travel, since drops, spills and surges are the damage ProSupport excludes. For laptops that stay in the office, the value depends on whether drive retention or the self-healing tools matter to the organization.

What is Dell Keep Your Hard Drive?

It is a Dell service that lets the customer keep a failed drive after Dell replaces it under a qualifying defect. It is included with ProSupport Plus and unavailable on models with soldered drives, Chromebooks and Venue tablets.

How do I know which support plan a Dell device has?

Dell's support site shows every entitlement for a device when you enter its Service Tag, each one with its service level and dates. To follow the whole fleet without looking up devices one by one, a warranty integration brings that data into the asset inventory.
