InvGate Service Management and ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus are both solid ITSM platforms, and the choice usually comes down to how you want to buy and how much you want to configure yourself. ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus is cheaper to start and free for up to five technicians, which suits small IT teams and shops already standardized on ManageEngine or Zoho products; InvGate Service Management fits teams that want no-code workflows, approvals, and support for several departments in one place, priced per agent with end users and approvers included at no extra cost.
The two differ most on how each one packages its ITSM modules and what it charges for them, which is where this comparison starts.
On sourcing: InvGate publishes InvGate Service Management, one of the two products compared here. Prices, editions, and features come from each vendor's own pages and from Gartner Peer Insights, checked October 2026.

Pricing: editions, add-ons and what's included
The two vendors price on different units, so the entry number only tells part of the story. ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus charges per technician; InvGate Service Management charges per agent and includes end users and approvers at no cost.
ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus has three editions, priced per technician per month: Standard, the IT help desk, from $13; Professional, which adds asset management, from $27; and Enterprise, which adds change and project management, from $67. The Standard edition is free for up to five technicians on a single instance. The gap buyers might miss is in the add-ons: on Standard and Professional, core ITIL modules are priced separately — service catalog, problem management and project management at $1,195 each per year, change and release management at $2,395, and CMDB at $1,195 on Professional. All of those are built into Enterprise.
InvGate Service Management publishes three plans: Starter from $24.98 per agent per month billed annually, with a five-agent, $1,499-per-year minimum; Pro at $500 per agent per year for teams of 5 to 50 agents; and a custom Enterprise tier above that. There are no per-module charges — the plan you are on sets the feature set, and end users and approvers are unlimited on every plan.
Asset Management is where the comparison needs care. In ServiceDesk Plus, IT Asset Management is part of the Professional and Enterprise editions. With InvGate, Asset Management is a distinct product, InvGate Asset Management, with its own plans and pricing; it integrates natively with InvGate Service Management.
How each one grows: editions, plans and products
With ServiceDesk Plus, growth means changing editions or buying add-ons. Standard covers the help desk. Professional adds IT Asset Management. Enterprise brings Change Management, Project Management and CMDB out of the box, which on the lower editions are paid add-ons. A team that starts on Standard and later needs problem or change management either buys those modules or moves up a tier.
InvGate Service Management includes more from the start: Incident, Problem and Knowledge Management, along with nine more ITIL practices. Also, SLA and support for several departments and AIHub are all in the Starter plan. The Pro plan opens the no-code workflow builder, Change, Deployment and Release Management, the Virtual Service Agent, the API and the Microsoft Teams integration. Enterprise adds the capabilities larger or regulated environments ask for. Asset Management does not follow that staircase. It lives in InvGate Asset Management, a separate product with its own plans.
Making changes: workflows and day-to-day configuration
InvGate Service Management includes a no-code workflow builder, available from the Pro plan. An IT lead or process owner drags steps, approvals and conditions into place and publishes, so a new request type or approval chain is usually a configuration task rather than a project. Forms, SLAs and the self-service catalog are edited in the same visual way.
ServiceDesk Plus is configurable too, with templates, business rules and life-cycle settings, but the depth you can reach depends on your edition and add-ons: the more advanced ITIL processes — problem, project — are modules you enable or buy rather than features you shape on any tier. For teams on Standard or Professional, extending beyond the help desk often means a licensing decision before a configuration one.
AI: InvGate AI Hub vs ManageEngine's AI features
Both vendors now ship AI as part of the product rather than a metered extra, so the question is less about cost and more about what each one does. ManageEngine includes AI across every edition; InvGate includes AI Hub on every plan and adds a conversational agent from Pro.
ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus includes predictive, generative and conversational AI across all editions at no additional cost, and its Zia Agents are included in the Enterprise edition.
InvGate's AI Hub is included on every Service Management plan, cloud and on-premise, with no add-on fee and no credit pool to meter. Some of its features include: agent assistance, proactive detection and Knowledge Management: drafting and improving replies, summarizing tickets and suggesting assignments; flagging major incidents, likely SLA breaches and change risk; and turning resolved tickets into knowledge articles and reusable snippets.
Separate from AI Hub, the Virtual Service Agent — available from the Pro plan — brings a conversational assistant into the self-service portal, Microsoft Teams, WhatsApp and Slack, where users can get answers, raise tickets and handle approvals on their own.
When ManageEngine is the better choice
ServiceDesk Plus is the stronger fit for small teams and for organizations already invested in ManageEngine. A few situations point clearly to it:
- A very small team that can run on the free Standard edition for up to five technicians, with room to upgrade later.
- An organization that needs a self-hosted deployment on a perpetual license rather than a subscription.
- A shop already using ManageEngine or Zoho products — Endpoint Central, OpManager and the rest — that values keeping tools under one vendor.
- A team that prefers a modular approach to pricing — paying for just the help desk at first and adding modules only when it needs them.
When InvGate Service Management is the better choice
InvGate Service Management fits teams that have outgrown a basic help desk and want more in each plan without buying modules one at a time.
- An organization running Service Management for several departments, with approvals and SLAs in one tool and unlimited end users and approvers.
- A team that wants to build and change workflows on its own.
- A buyer who prefers per-agent pricing with AI included on every plan, no per-module add-ons.
- A team that also needs comprehensive Asset Management and wants InvGate Asset Management, a separate product, tied to the service desk through a native integration.
If that sounds like your setup, you can talk with the InvGate team and discuss your needs.
InvGate vs ManageEngine FAQ
Is InvGate Service Management cheaper than ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus? It depends on size and scope. ServiceDesk Plus has the lower entry price and a free edition for up to five technicians, so it is cheaper for a small help desk. InvGate Service Management includes Problem Management, approvals, workflows and unlimited end users in its plans, where ServiceDesk Plus sells several of those as add-ons on the lower editions, so for a team that needs them an all-in plan can be simpler to budget. Buyers weighing more than these two can look at the wider set of tools that replace ServiceDesk Plus.
Does InvGate offer on-premise? Yes. InvGate Service Management runs in the cloud or on-premise, with AI Hub included either way.
Can I migrate from ServiceDesk Plus to InvGate? Yes. Teams move from ServiceDesk Plus to InvGate Service Management; migrations typically carry over existing tickets, users and categories, and InvGate's team supports the onboarding.
